Selling anything first needs to attract the eyeballs and the ears in the hope of generating a need and an urgent itch to buy.

Salesmen often employ a gimmick to further our curiosity in a product, whilst entertainers flaunt themselves, as they are the product.

Talent, good looks and failing that, quirky behaviour gets people looking. With lots of variety in the act to hold our attention, so we want more.

The antics can often be as entertaining as the music or the lyrics. Its all part of the performance and an integral part of show business.

Often there’s more devious messages being conveyed than a politician soliciting votes or a courtesan seeking clients.

Cream squirting out of breasts or offensive behaviour aimed at the touchy groups in society, will either titillate or creates a talking point where the more controversy, the greater the result. Particularly if that translates into a revenue stream.

Two audacious ladies vying for your attention and custom are Lady Gaga and Katy Perry. As is the nature of show business, neither handles are their real names. There are extenuating circumstances as Joanne Angelina Germanotta is not as catchy as Lady Gaga and Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson is too much like Kate Hudson and would tend to confuse the punters. Perry is at least her mother’s maiden name.

Lady Gaga (born Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta; March 28, 1986) is a popular and eccentric American recording artist, as demonstrated when her Alejandro video caused a stir with the blasphemous nature of its imagery.

Not only did Lady Gaga (born 1986) go there, but so did the Hilton heiress sisters Paris (born 1981) and Nicky Hilton (born 1983), but at different times. Paris is reported as saying, “She (Lady Gaga) writes all her own music and has a style that is so innovative and modern and futuristic that no one has even thought of it yet and I love that. She’s a trend setter.”

He has also appeared in a number of films, including the romantic comedy “Forgetting Sarah Marshall”, “St Trinian’s”, and “Bedtime Stories”. His current film is “Get Him to the Greek”. He is noted for various controversies that have surrounded him in the British media, such as the 2008 prank calls that led to his resignation from the BBC.

“Sachsgate” relates to prank telephone calls left on the answering machine of actor Andrew Sachs, a German-born British actor who made his name on British television as Manuel in Fawlty Towers. The controversy followed a BBC Radio 2 broadcast of The Russell Brand Show on Saturday 18 October 2008. In the show, Brand and Jonathan Ross left lewd messages on the voice mail of Sachs, including comments about Sachs’ granddaughter, Georgina Baillie, a British goth-styled model and actor who dances under the stage name Voluptua in a burlesque troupe, The Satanic Sluts. The two entertainers had called Sachs as a guest to interview on the show, and after he failed to answer the telephone, Brand and Ross left the messages on his answering machine.

On 25 October 2008, the BBC apologised to Sachs and his agent. Gordon Brown, the Prime Minister, criticised Ross and Brand’s actions, saying that it was “clearly inappropriate and unacceptable behaviour”, and the television watchdog, Ofcom, launched an enquiry into the matter. Afterwards, Brand and Controller of Radio 2 Lesley Douglas resigned with Jonathan Ross suspended.

Brand is a former heroin and sex addict and a recovering alcoholic who is engaged to American singer/songwriter Katy Perry.
